Many patients are unable to visit the dentist or undergo essential dental treatment because the are anxious of the dental environment. At Parmar Dental we have a team specially trained to provide IV Sedation to help highly anxious patients.

INTRODUCTION TO IV SEDATION:

IV Sedation is the use of a drug called midazolam, which is given to help patients relax. IV sedation can only be offered to dentists who have undergone recognized vigorous training. Midazolam is a safe and effective drug which helps patients feel relaxed and reduce their anxiety associated with dental treatment.

During treatment, patients are monitored carefully using specialised equipment, which measures oxygen saturation and heart rate. During sedation, the patient is awake and verbal contact is always maintained.
The sedative - Midazolam - also has an amnesic affect, so it is unlikely that much will be remembered after the drug has worn off. After treatment, the patient’s reflexes and responses will be decreased. For this reason, patients must be accompanied to and from the surgery, and must not drive or operate machinery until back to normal!

Sedation is a safe and effective method of relieving anxiety for the nervous patient, and making dental care once again possible for them.
